Faculty & Staff for Justice in Palestine at Montgomery College
Mission Statement
The Faculty & Staff for Justice in Palestine group at Montgomery College includes full- and part-time faculty and staff who are dedicated to fostering a just and equitable environment within our academic community. Grounded in the principles of the US Academic Campaign to Boycott Israel, we strive to promote awareness, understanding, and advocacy for the rights and dignity of the Palestinian people. Our mission is to engage in critical dialogue, educational initiatives, and peaceful actions that contribute to a campus culture that values justice and human rights in alignment with the principles of Montgomery College.
Guiding Principles
Promoting Academic Freedom and Integrity
We uphold the principles of academic freedom, encouraging open and respectful dialogue on issues related to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We advocate for an unbiased academic environment where diverse perspectives can be explored and discussed, fostering a commitment to intellectual integrity and scholarly inquiry.
Advancing Social Justice and Human Rights by Supporting the US Academic Campaign to Boycott Israel:
Our group is committed to promoting social justice and human rights, with a specific focus on the rights of the Palestinian people. Through educational events and initiatives, we seek to broaden understanding and appreciation for the cultural richness and diversity of the Palestinian people. In alignment with the US Academic Campaign to Boycott Israel, we advocate for targeted and principled actions, including academic boycotts, divestment, and sanctions if and where applicable, as non-violent means to encourage Israel to comply with international law, to end its occupation and colonization of Arab lands, to tear down the wall, to respect the rights of the Palestinian people, to offer full equality to Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and to promote the return of Palestinian refugees to their homes and properties. We ask members of our community to urge our Congressional delegation to end the US government’s military and other forms of support for the Israeli government’s occupation of Palestinian territories.
Aligning with Montgomery College Values
Our actions and initiatives are guided by the core values of Montgomery College, including integrity, diversity, excellence, and respect, and the mission to make the world a better place. We aim to contribute positively to the college community by embodying these values in our advocacy efforts, fostering an atmosphere that encourages critical thinking, empathy, and a commitment to social justice. We condemn and will combat anti-Semitism and Islamophobia on campus.
